Vutu Nguyen is nearing completion of his PhD in Musicology at Claremont Graduate University and is currently writing a dissertation on 19th century piano methods. He has returned to Northern California where he received his MM and BM in Piano (with chamber music emphasis) from San Francisco State University and where he was a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Preparatory Division. Notable performances include international venues like Salle Cortot in Paris and more locally at the Old First Church and Forest Hill Concerts in San Francisco where Vutu has performed both as a soloist and as a chamber musician.
Aside from his academic and performing career, Vutu is an accomplished educator and is dedicated to cultivating the talents of others. In 2007 he was awarded the MTNA Achievement Recognition for Excellence in Piano Pedagogy and the SFSU Student-Teacher Award. He currently teaches piano at the San Francisco Community Music Center and through his private piano studio in Sacramento.
Vutu is also an active piano accompanist for various choirs and soloists in Northern California.
